Urinary incontinence is a problem that affects many women. Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leaking of urine when coughing, sneezing, and laughing or during athletics. Many women experience incontinence, and tend to have more episodes of incontinence as they age. There are several types of urinary incontinence with the most common types being stress and urge incontinence.
Few women acknowledge their incontinence and are embarrassed by it but once women feel comfortable enough to speak with their physician(s) regarding incontinence, treatment can be easily initiated. The methods of treatment vary depending on the type and severity of the incontinence. Treatment ranges from strengthening the pelvic floor muscles by doing kegel exercises, to initiating medications, and in more extreme cases requiring bladder suspension surgery. If you feel that you may suffer from incontinence please make an appointment to speak with Dr. Prewitt.
